The Circle of Light Moscow International Festival is held this weekend in Moscow, in a few locations, one of them being Moscow State University.

The event was advertised all over the city, and I first learned about it when I treavelled Moscow at night, taking shots of the city’s stunning buildings.

This Friday night, we headed to the University to watch the opening event. Roads were blocked and we had to walk a bit to get to the university itself by foot. The event started at 20:30, and we arrived a bit late due to traffic but managed to see a big portion of it.

Brigades of policemen were guarding this huge event, some of them standing in the freezing cold (I really can’t imagine how).

We finally arrived to the university and it was already crowded. The event started by a short film show on the huge building of the university (it’s building is one of the Seven Sisters) that was used as a canvas. The film was an animation about the relations between nature and human kind, featuring a wolf cub and an albatross. I didn’t pay much attention though. It was also very loud, because we stood right next to the giagantic speakers (my ear plugs came in handy!).

After the animated film ended, a massive firework show started, to the sounds of classic music. It was much, much bigger than any firework show I’ve ever whitnessed. I read somewhere, that over 20 tons of firework were used!

The smoke coming from the firework soon overfilled the sky, and seeing some of the firework became difficult. As it turns out it was also raining (didn’t notice that because I was too busy taking photos) and my lens got wet! Oh well, it resulted in a cool effect on some of the photos 🙂

As we walked away, another firework show started, but we didn’t see it. The smoke scaterred all over the place, and the people going back from the show seemed like figures from a horror movie hehe.

This festival is held every year, and lasts a few days. If you’re in Moscow at that time, I absolutely recommend you go!
